Nature and You

Myosotis flowers

When you recognize the sacredness, the beauty, the incredible stillness and dignity in which a flower or a tree exists, you add something to the flower or the tree. Through your recognition, your awareness, nature too comes to know itself. It comes to know its own beauty and sacredness through you!

— Eckhart Tolle, Stillness Speaks, p. 85

Beautiful! This make us humans special, is it not? 🙂

  1. That’s a very deep thought. Eckhart Tolle has a way of conveying deep insights with simple examples. Kind of reminds me of the Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle. We, as the observers, create the results, just by our focus. We give meaning to whatever we become aware of.
    Thanks for these beautiful lines!

  2. If this is true for an insentient, non-self aware organism like a tree or flower, it should then be infinitely more true for the highest form of life in this world, a fellow human being. Yet we mostly do not appreciate others or even fully respect then, let alone realise the beauty and truth that may lie in each human soul.

  3. Yeah, we have this unique capability to appreciate… nature appreciates itself through us, we play such an important role! Thanks for your appreciation of these beautiful lines. 🙂

  4. Very very true! When we humans honestly appreciate and respect each other for what we are, how beautiful the world would be! Graham, thanks for reading the blog and sharing your thoughts. 🙂

  5. Thank you, Srini. I have only just discovered this site and I am happy to link with someone whose mind functions on a much higher plane than is common, and is seeking spiritual truth and self-realisation. You may indeed be much further advanced on that path than am I.

  6. Graham, I too am glad to connect with you. And there is no high or low in this path. We just play different roles, and at times we swap roles as well. Cheers 🙂

  7. Perhaps you and I should join on Facebook. Just a suggestion. I have a few contacts who are Christian, which nominally I was brought up to be. But Eastern thought and philosophy resonates much more closely with science and psychology. Your thoughts and perceptions would add a whole new dimension to the lives and world views of others, and many of them would harmonise with my own. South Africa and its society is ultra-materialistic. Its people think only of money and the pursuit of pleasure. This is so empty and superficial. I can never find contentment with such an existence and the very thought is almost abhorrent to me.

  8. Very very deep thinking. The way you tried to convey such an important message to people is excellent. By the way, i would say that life has so many other things of which we don’t even think. If we could start giving all the things same importance, our life would have been very different.
